Classroom Newsletter

Monday 5th May
Term Two
Welcome parents, whānau and caregivers back to the start of term. Hopefully both your and child have had a relaxing Easter holiday. I am very excited to get back into the swing of things and continue the terrific progress with your child in Room 6. This Term Trish Smith will be teaching Room 6 in the morning between 9.00 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. During this time I will be working with a select group of students on an accelerating learning course in Mathematics. This term my personal focus is to continue to help students take responsibility and develop personal independence with their learning at school and at home. It is important that your child is supported with their learning at home, please make sure you are actively involved and monitoring homework and reading at home.

What’s happening this term in Room 6
Topic
This term our topic is diversity in Food. Children will be learning about how changes can be permanent or temporary with food. Why do we eat what we eat? Why is food important in different cultures? There will be lots of opportunities for hands on learning and cooking around this unit.
Mathematics and English
Our writing focus for term two is writing to instruct. Students will be learning how to construct a procedural text about recipes and experiments. In Mathematics children will continue learning addition and subtraction problems to solve equations. We are also going to learn about transformation for geometry. Then we will move onto learning about patterns and relationships for algebra for the second half of the term.
Homework
Homework will begin again next week. Students will receive a homework sheet each Monday and bring it back to class on Friday completed. Please try your best to complete these set activities during the week nights. It will consist of recording reading, spelling that should happen every night and an inquiry question about learning happening in the class.
                Classroom Blog
Room 6 has a classroom blog that can be accessed from our school website. There are multiple online education activities which children can access. The blog is updated throughout the week with pictures and activities.
                Support
Room 6 has an open door policy, which means you are welcome to come in at any time you like. If you have any concerns or would like to help out please come contact me at school or via email.
Thank you
Mr Hill
